Located on 12 de Julio Street, number 54 in the municipality of San Felipe de Puerto Plata, the museum arose at the initiative of several personalities from Puerto Plata, who were interested in recovering the house of the manager of the Restoration of the Republic in 1863, to highlight his life from youth, merchant, military and politician.

The efforts began in 2005 with the coordination of the then governor Eridania Gibre, presenting the project to former president Leonel Fernández, who ordered the restoration and reconstruction of the house, which was inaugurated on June 8, 2012 and opened to the public in September of the same year.

The restoration was carried out by the architect Sarita García, who preserved the building as a Victorian house of the time, where Luisa (Luisita) Luperón lived for many years and where her father, Gregorio Luperón, had a store and the cavalry .

The tour begins on the first level with the reception, then to the right the public finds a kitchen, where typical trousseaus of the time are displayed, such as a basin, a jar, lamps, a coffee strainer and others.

This space was created with the idea of reminding the attendees that Luperón, provisional president of the Republic, since he was a child helped sell the sweets that his mother made as a way of contributing to the sustenance of his family.

Later there is a designed room that glimpses a forest, since Gregorio Luperón worked in a sawmill from the age of 14, to later become its administrator.

The exhibits on the first level end with the Restoration War room, where there are replicas of the weapons that were used, lamps, bottles to carry water to the fights waged at that time.

The second level consists of a Multipurpose Room, a space that works to offer talks to the attendees, and where a documentary made with personalities from Puerto Plata who served as actors is played, which talks about the life of Luperón and the history of the Restoration of the Republic.

Likewise, the Pavilion of the second stage of Luperón in which the events of the Post Restoration War are narrated, his trips to Europe, as well as a recount of his government.

Also in this room stand out, in addition to Luperón, the story of Pedro Santana, José Antonio Salcedo, Gaspar Polanco, Pedro Antonio Pimentel and Benito Moción.

Likewise, Luisita's bed, objects, clothing of the time, an old piano, a room with suits worn by the personalities of that time from the wealthiest social strata are exhibited.

At the end of the tour in the room on level 2, visitors will find the episodes about the death of Luperón, which occurred in May 1897 in Puerto Plata after being sent for by Ulises Heureaux, after staying for a while sick on Saint Thomas Island.

There, moments of his burial and Luperón's tomb in the church are documented with images and texts. It should be noted that in each area there are screens that play documentaries with each fact of history.

This was a well done museum tour walk thru with guide (for free- but tip at the end). Our guide was very nice and spoke well in English. She had only been working there a few months but seemed interested in what she was teaching us. The exhbits are small and it is a quick tour but completely important when traveling in the DR to understand the important of General Luperon. It was clean, air conditioned, and inexpensive. Do it!

To learn about the love that the people of the Dominican Republic have for their former leader, General Luperon, stop into his former home, now museum, of their past leader. The museum holds artifacts, films, costumes, and a great local history right there inside. We learned the great deeds that their leader did for the country to help its people, how he was their liberator, and how he is still so loved and revered today. The tour was interesting and well worth participating in to learn
