Beyond the Famous 27: Secret Cascades
Everyone knows about the 27 Waterfalls, but if you want to avoid the crowds, you need to know about the best waterfalls in Puerto Plata besides Damajagua. The lush, mountainous terrain of the north coast is hiding several secret cascades that offer pristine beauty and thrilling jumps without the long lines.
Our top recommendation is the Charcos de los Militares (Military Pools). Located near the town of Tubagua, this hike takes you deep into the untouched jungle. After an hour of trekking through lush greenery, you are rewarded with three stunning, deep blue pools fed by cascading waterfalls. The water is crisp and refreshing, perfect for a mid-hike swim.
Another incredible spot is Cascada de la Rejoya, nestled in the Isabel de Torres mountain range. It’s a bit of a challenging hike, but the massive, towering waterfall at the end is absolutely breathtaking. You’ll rarely see other tourists here, making it feel like your own private paradise.
